Is CoPilot the same as ChatGPT?
Both ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot are both artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that were developed with the intent of helping you accomplish tasks and activities faster and more efficiently. While they may seem similar, there are significant differences between the two.
ChatGPT works like a chatbot as it was designed to hold a conversation with you. After giving it a question or prompt, ChatGPT uses machine learning algorithms to understand the context of the conversation and generate the appropriate responses.
Typical tasks ChatGPT can help with:
- Compose essays, emails, and cover letters
- Create lists
- Write code
- Create poems and song lyrics
- Build your curriculum vitae (CV)
- Summarise content
- Describe art in detail
ChatGPT does not have the ability to search the internet and may not have the most up-to-date information to draw from. This can leave room for error, or “hallucinations”, within its responses, so it’s important for you to review and edit any information ChatGPT provides. As with all chat-based AI tools, best practice would be to follow a trial-and-error approach when crafting your questions.
About Microsoft CoPilot
Copilot is a generative artificial intelligence that can create human-like text and other content with just a few words of human direction. It relies on underlying large language models that Microsoft-backed OpenAI has trained on voluminous sets of data to compose email text, answer questions and automatically perform actions in Windows, augmenting its knowledge with information from websites.
PC-specific features in the Windows Copilot include the ability to open apps, switch to dark mode, turn on Bluetooth and get guidance on making a screenshot. While you’re looking at a website in the Edge browser, you can have the Copilot come up with a summary of what’s on the page.
Copilot is probably the biggest part of this year’s Windows 11 release and is seeing accelerated Windows 11 deployments worldwide. Companies like Visa, BP, Honda, and Pfizer, Eurowings, Kantar, RBC and partners like Accenture, KPMG, and PwC are already using Copilot to transform the way they work, and 40% of the Fortune 100 participated in the Copilot Early Access Program.
Microsoft CoPilot Available for SMEs
However, we are excited to announce that the playing field has been levelled somewhat, and now Copilot for Microsoft 365 is generally available for small and medium-sized businesses—from solopreneurs running and launching their first business to 300-person fast-growing startups. Small and medium-sized businesses are the heart of every community and the lifeblood of local economies. They have an outsized impact on the world and markets they support. These businesses stand to gain the most from this era of generative AI, and Copilot is uniquely suited to meet their needs.
Small and medium-sized business owners report that communicating with customers takes up most of their time (66%), with managing budgets (50%) and administrative tasks (48%) not far behind. Copilot for Microsoft 365 can help reduce this daily grind, giving business owners valuable time back to focus on what matters most: growing their business.
